Strong Poison on DVD

I just watched Strong Poison on DVD and was curious to see what others thought of the adaptation. I must admit that I was very disappointed in both the production and the casting. Both Wimsey (Edward Petherbridge) and Harriet (Harriet Walter) seem terribly miscast. I found it hard to even listen to Petherbridge speak his lines in that prissy delivery he uses. Harriet Walter is a fine actress but she wasn't anything like how I pictured her in my minds eye. Their scenes together were very wooden and completely lacking in the chemistry they have in the books. When he proposed to her I couldn't help laughing out loud at the thought of anyone seriously spending the rest of their life with such a wet noodle.

The production was also spotty with shaky camera work and cheap looking sets. There was one scene where someone was pressing on this large wooden piece of furniture trying to find a secret compartment and you can clearly see the "wood" being pushed inward revealing that it is made of rubber and not wood.

The adaptation is the 1987 BBC version. Has anyone else seen it and what are your thoughts?
