The Mad Hatter's Riddle -- The new EQ Pastiche

Hello, all!

My new Ellery Queen pastiche, The Mad Hatter's Riddle, is excerpted on the EQMM website that went up this morning (July 28). Check it out at:

http://www.themysteryplace.com/eqmm/

Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the story's title -- but be forewarned, the excerpt ends at the murder. To find out whodunit you will need to pick up a copy of the September/October double issue of the magazine, which should be in larger U.S. bookstores beginning today.

The issue was available toward the end of last week (and it certainly was worth the wait). Elsewhere on this website, someone has noted that most good detective short stories, as opposed to good novels, contain only one (or at most two) clever ideas. The Mad Hatter's Riddle has at least three, and what doosies they are. In particular,
Spoiler
the fact that way back in 1975, Betamax was already around.
I would highly recommend it to all Ellery Queen fans (and some non-Ellery Queen fans as well).

Harry -- Glad you liked it! One of the things that takes a long time in writing these is coming up with several surprises and then integrating them all into one story line. Nice to have one's work appreciated! -- Dale
