Re: Best Portrayal of Lord Peter Wimsey?

That's tough! I saw Petherbridge first, and thought that he was the definitive Wimsey. However, when the Carmichaels started turning up on DVD I bought the first one out of curiosity, expecting to be disappointed. How wrong I was. I enjoyed every single one, and after the first few minutes of the first story I was ready to accept Carmichael as Wimsey. Petherbridge is the best physical fit for the character in the original novels, but Carmichael captures the Wimsey well enough to make you forget that he is too old and too short. I think that Carmichael has the best Bunter, too.
I think that it is high time that there was a new series of Wimsey on the TV. Any suggestions about casting?

Although a bit young, I wonder if Jude Law would make a good Wimsey. . .

Re: Best Portrayal of Lord Peter Wimsey?

I think he might.

I've always favored Cary Elwes for the job.

The first series had so many bad 70s elements to it that I was often distracted from the acting, which was really excellent.

The next was far better, aside from the changes made to Gaudy Night. In making those changes they went opposite to Sayers' own views on her subject material.

Now who would be a good choice to play Harriet Vane?
